OMG! What are we doing to ourselves???

Sexually Ill Tendency: OMG! What are we doing to ourselves?
By Igomene Joseph

I am very frustrated at we are doing to ourselves and I wonder if you are or even care. I recognize and appreciate the efforts of many organizations to manage the unnatural sexual behavior of people who commit such vicious acts of rape, molestation and other sexual assaults. However, the grave concern is why isn’t there more avenues by which healthy sexual habits and conflict resolution is required, taught and explored in effort to prevent such traumas; especially in the church, our schools and/or at home?

I recently read that there is an agency called, The Center for Sex Offender Management (CSOM), a national clearinghouse and technical assistance center that supports state and local jurisdictions in the effective management of sex offenders. I am NOT condoning their behaviors nor am I saying that the punishment doesn’t fit the crime but we as a society have become so turned off by sex. Example: We lock up adult female prostitutes who offer sex as a service. We lock up adult men for using this service because it’s either illegal, not taxed, or “immoral”. Masturbation is discouraged and looked at as a sin. Having gone so far in the unnatural order, we lock up men who rape women and children for their unmet or repressed sexual desires and rightfully so. We lock up perverts, sexual predators and pedophiles: Sexual harassments lawsuits, cripple companies and workers. We created laws and charges for lewd and lascivious behaviors.

For Heaven sake, let’s start defending human sexuality. Why can’t we defend the healthiness associated with sex? Let’s defend the appropriateness of sex between a man and a woman. For teens, let’s defend the basic nature and pleasure of sex. For children, let’s defend the reason for sex. For humanity, let’s not be offended by sex then label, confine and ridicule the defenders. Then turnaround and call them the offenders. I understand that you may not agree with me or have any compassion for the criminals who commit these acts; however, let’s agree to disagree. Let’s also face the facts. Sex is defined as either the male or female division of a species, especially with reference to the reproductive functions. Sex is the instinct or attraction drawing one sex toward another. Sex is the means on how you and I got to be here. We are intentionally losing sight of this through the passing of guilt, shame, miseducation to the young and the creation of more and more Sexual Assault Treatment Centers and agencies like it; then wonder where the ill behaviors come from (or who created it).

From WHERE WE STAND, by Michael Wolff, Peter Rutten, Albert Bayers III, and the World Rank Research Team (New York: Bantam Books, 1992), states that “sex education is more prevalent in Europe than America, where conservatives oppose it on the grounds that it condones sexual behavior.” Yet, European rape statistic is much lower, whereas ours is twice as high. Notice how the rape statistic speaks for itself (per 100,000 people): United States 37.20, Sweden 15.70, Denmark 11.23, Germany 8.60, Norway 7.87, United Kingdom 7.26, Finland 7.20, and Japan 1.40

Although Sigmund Freud's main concern was with sexual desire during his time, he understood desires in terms of forming human drives. He saw desires as instincts and appetites that naturally determined one's behaviors and beliefs, even as we continue to repress those behaviors and beliefs. By our religious conservative beliefs and repression for healthier sex options, we have confused society and nature into producing more and more of what I call, Sexually Ill Tendency (S.I.T.). My heart goes out...but as a result, this “ill” behavior shows up in the form of priest or preachers who prey on young boys or bi-sexuals, gays, lesbian and other “odd” behaviors and lifestyles that lead into it or follows. This tendency is the cause behind the malicious acts of rape, molestation and other sexual assaults. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the cause behind more and more divorces. Rather than take offense, why not take action in prevention of this tendency. Start by becoming AWARE!

Like an illness, the clues to the source are so obvious as to the causes yet collectively and individually, we choose to ignore it and the cure altogether. Then, we blame others through disgrace and pointing finger; a section of our society seem to feel better by blaming the scapegoat “Satan”. In regards to that, let’s take mental illness for an example; another issue that some like to blame on the "devil". Although it is stated that “the exact cause of most mental illnesses is not known, yet it is becoming clear through research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of genetic, biological, psychological and environmental factors,” and NOT the elusive, Devil.

Although treatable, those factors affect the human body all the way to our genes. These genes are then passed on from generation to generation which we inherit and call them heredity, which again was produced by the combination of our genetic, biological, psychological and environmental factors. Sexually ill tendencies follows the exact same pattern and produces dis-ease. Untreated, this common tendency is something un-comfortable taking place mentally, emotionally, physiologically within the human body, as well as outwardly. When I say “outwardly” I am talking planet wide. Planet wide, majority of men are falling victims to Sexual Ill Tendency by there “unusual” sexual appetites, like being a drag queen or a cross-dresser. Sadly women, children or other men, who are incarcerated together, are all becoming victims too. Socially we are all affected! Simply turn on or read the daily news. Better yet, Google and read about the subject that follows on Social Rejection.

Social Rejection: (part of an article retrieved from Wikipedia) is my biggest evidence of Sexually Ill Tendency. It states that, “Men are significantly more likely than women to react with rage and aggression when rejected. Men in general receive more rejections, so it is not known if aggressive reactions are due to gender or just rejection build-up.” Rejection build-up and S.I.T. is supported by way of emotional guilt, repression, fear, shame or abstinence and now it’s created an adverse tragic epidemic in the form of Human Trafficking (H.T.). This a major crime against humanity and it’s considered as “modern-day slavery.”

Like in the movie Taken, it involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploitation. It is what we seem to prefer rather than speaking up or promote healthier sex options or support common sense resolutions to sex like those in European countries. It is what we prefer rather than accept personal fault, if we stand by and do nothing. I, for one, do accept fault in hopes of making a change. The question is, whether or not you can? At time same time, I also give praise to a helpful organization called, Planned Parenthood - "an organization that delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide.”

You should know that I am an Aquarius like both Galileo Galilei, who went against the church and was punished for claiming that the Earth revolved around the Sun and Oprah Winfrey. I read that, “[Aquarian’s] like to make the world a little better, which is why we focus much of their energy on our social institutions and how they work or don't work.” As an Aquarius who feels the same way, I'm claiming that there is a solution to S.I.T., H.T., STD’s, sexual assaults, etc. and it is not what we are currently teaching our children, religiously about sex. One thing! Marriage isn't tailor made for everyone, so preaching that it is, is bout as absurd as believing that the Earth is still flat. Being that it's not, let's start somewhere!
Let’s start by supporting: www.plannedparenthood.org. Let’s also begin reversing the world-wide religious, social and personal restrictions we have about sex. Let’s play with sex, love sex and most of all respect the act by using protection. We should do better and we can; punishment isn’t prevention and abstinence is certainly NOT a cure.

Before abstinence is taught or punishment is rendered, let’s teach age appropriately about the natural order of sex as an extension of human growth, love and sexuality. Let’s spread the word on how it’s okay for a man and a woman to kiss and show affection in public. Let’show love and affection in the home because children are imitators and not seeing love or affection leaves the young mind to wonder how, when and where does sex or love even happen. Let’s spread the word because what we are spreading now from S.I.T., H.T., STD’s to HIV and AIDS isn’t love, or the work of the Devil, but rather it is misguided blame, pain, and frustration that is statistically, if not systematically killing us all. Ask anyone who works in a morgue or mortuary or local clinic or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who the real culprit is and their answer should be US; those who idly stand by and watch it happen!

A FRIEND WROTE: Hi Iggy I read the article, I do agree with the point that sex is natural and show be taught as such. However back in the days it was keep away as a
deep dark secret, 50s 60s 70s , but there was less sexual crime. I think part of the problem is there is too much sex taught but in the wrong ways.
Such as TV, movies, DVD (xxx) etc. TV shows are base around rapes, and sexual misconduct and this is what is seen so it does bring the reality home.

Back in the day the was no Law and Order SVU. Movies and soap opera protray victims of rape falling in love and protecting the rapist.
There just to
much of this non sense and our kids are learning sex from this. Plus there is no X - rated DVD you can buy that show a storyline, plot of theme just a bunch
of people having hard crazy sex.

So until we take it off the screen like that the sexual crime is going to stay up. Teaching sex starts at home and go forward
from there, but first we have to grown and be sexual adults, which most are not.

MY REPLY: ...from what you are saying, we have adversely created part of the issue; especially when you said, "Back in the days, it was kept away as a deep dark secret, 50s 60s 70s...". Sex isn't something to be kept as a "secret"!

I believe that crimes took place but wasn't reported out of shame or guilt. It's natural, normal, and should be taught and viewed as such. By being embarrassed or keeping sex a secret is now the reason why I believe it's part of the "ill" results we face today. The results of news reports like:

* Police search for teen abductor. PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -- Police are searching for a man who allegedly grabbed a teen while walking. Posted: Today
* POMPANO BEACH, Fla where a prominent MD called, Dr. Hamilton (79) allegedly rapes one of his patient (37). Posted: 05/14/11
* DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man accused of exposing himself to children at a South Florida movie theater has been arrested. Posted: 05/06/11
* LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have released a sketch of a man accused of kidnapping a South Florida mother and forcing her to perform sexual acts on him.Posted: 05/04/11

I view this issue like educating a teen on driving. It's something they aspire to do as part of growing up, just like having sex. Although, if it is NOT discussed or we restrict them from 'doing it' or keeping it a 'secret', imagine what would happen. Imagine if they got behind the wheel of vehicle anyway, started it up, hit the gas at a high rate and accidentally put it in drive/reverse at the same time without proper guidance or properly understanding the braking aspect or having proper control of the wheel.

From their lack of proper driving education and skills, they would no doubt crash into something, thereby hurting themselves or someone else, wouldn't you agree?

It's the keeping sex a secret and improperly preaching abstinence and calling it sinful or restricting something normal and natural without providing or promoting proper healthy alternatives that has caused most of the Sexually Ill Tendencies (S.I.T.) we face today.
